Join us for the 2018 CWEA Color Guard Instructor Summit!

The Color Guard Instructor Summit is scheduled for November 17, 2018 at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina and will run parallel to the CWEA Fall Training Clinic presented by Etude. This clinic offers the opportunity for instructors, designers, group directors and band directors from all levels of experience to learn new approaches and ideas to take back to their programs.

Clinic Schedule

9:00 AM - Registration Begins

9:15 AM - Session 1 - The Ins and Outs of Running a Program - This clinic, presented by Emma Boyce of Etude, Band Director Tom Padgett of White Knoll and President Cody Crawford of CWEA, will discuss different methods of approach for running a successful program. Some of the topics for discussion will include: budgeting, season timelines, recruitment and retention, roles of the instructor vs. the director, Itinerary and day of show logistics planning, working with the circuit administration and managing your group, and much more!

10:45 AM - Session 2 - Building a Successful Movement Program - Our second session, presented by Brian Winn of Etude and Judge Education Coordinator Christine Clayton, will discuss ways to construct a successful movement program that will help your students improve their skills in this downstairs caption.

12:00 PM - Lunch (provided)

1:00 PM -Session 3 - How to Interpret Your Recap and Get the Most out of Your Critique - Presented by Judge Education Coordinator Christine Clayton, this portion of the clinic discuss different ways to approach critique at events and will help you understand both your role as well as the judge's role in the discussions.

2:30 PM - Session 4 - Choosing Class Appropriate Material - Led by Judge Coordinator Tim Landess and Brian Winn of Etude, this clinic will offer discussion on making class appropriate choices for your students at all levels! Topics of discussion for this session will include: Appropriate show concepts, musical selections, writing choreography, costuming choices and much more!

4:00 PM - Session 5 - Student Training Clinic Observation and Show & Tell

Participant fees for this event are $10.00 (plus fees) and will be used to cover a boxed lunch for clinic participants.
