A Note on Classifications
Proper classification is essential if we are to have a level playing field for all of our participants. It is extremely important for all competing units to place themselves in the proper class. Units competing in classes inappropriate to their skill level may be reclassified at the discretion of the Classifications Committee. Indoor Winds presents marching ensembles of any wind instrumentation the same performance environment as indoor color guard and percussion ensembles. Winds programs can perform with color guard and/or a percussion unit, but groups are not required to have non-wind instrument playing performers.
Beginning programs and performers. Participants in A class should have beginning vocabulary, programmatic material, and achievement levels at the beginning/introductory level. Evaluation will be on the WGI Winds A Class criteria.
Intermediate/developmental programs and performers. Participants in this class should have intermediate vocabulary, programmatic material, achievement level, and are beginning to incorporate advanced concepts. Evaluation will be on the WGI Winds Open Class criteria.
